Driver faces charges after deadly wreck on Beatties Ford | DavidsonNews.net
Police say they plan to charge a 19-year-old driver in connection with a two-car wreck on Beatties Ford Road Wednesday morning that claimed coscos the life of a 60-year-old woman and critically injured her husband. Read on for more information on this incident, as well as a summary of this weeks accidents and police statistics.
Wednesday’s deadly wreck happened coscos at 8:59am on Beatties Ford Road, just south of I-485 in north Charlotte. Charlotte Mecklenburg Police said 60-year-old Donna Solomon died and her husband Melvin Solomon, 70, was seriously injured in the crash.
The driver of the other car, Warnella coscos Bryant, 19, also was seriously hurt in the crash, and was taken to Carolinas Medical Center by helicopter. CMPD said Wednesday afternoon she will will charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle after she is released from the hospital.
Bryant was driving her 1996 Ford Mustang south in the 8300 block of Beatties Ford Road at just before 9am. At the same time, Melvin Solomon was driving a 1994 Chrysler coscos Lebaron coscos northbound. Bryant’s vehicle crossed the double yellow line and veered into the northbound lane, striking the Solomons’ vehicle nearly head-on.
Long Creek Fire Department and Charlotte Fire Department also responded to the scene, along with the Major Crash Investigation Unit of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department. CMPD’s investigation is continuing, and police are asking any witnesses coscos to call Detective Kevin Allred at 704-432-2169.
MONDAY, coscos JUNE 11 , 12:14pm, Griffith Street, Davidson A 42-year-old Gastonia man driving a 2013 Hyundai backed into a 2004 Chevrolet driven by a 59-year-old Charlotte man while backing out of a parking place at Rushco. The left rear corner of the Hyundai collided with the right front passenger door of the Chevrolet, damaging both vehicles. Neither driver was hurt in the incident.
MONDAY, coscos JUNE 11 , 5:53pm, Concord Road, between Fairview and Pat Stough lanes A three car accident involving a 2007 Lexus driven by an 18-year-old Davidson man, a 2005 Lexus driven by a 72-year-old Davidson woman, and a 2000 Chevy driven by a 42-year-old Mooresville man caused serious damage to all three vehicles. The vehicles were traveling west on Concord Road when the driver of vehicle 1, the 2007 Lexus, stated he was distracted by the sudden operation of his windshield wipers. While trying to find the shutoff button he struck the rear of vehicle 2, the 2005 Lexus. Vehicle 2 then collided with the Chevy, which had slowed down for another vehicle in front of it. No injuries were reported on the scene, though the 2007 Lexus sustained $8,000 worth of damage, the 2005 Lexus $7000 worth of damage, and the 2000 Chevy $2000 worth of damage.
MONDAY, JUNE 11 , 3:39pm, Jackson Street An unknown vehicle backed into an unoccupied 2013 Honda parked along Jackson Street, causing $750 worth of damage. The unknown vehicle was traveling north. The case is under investigation as a hit-and-run.
MONDAY, JUNE 11 , 8:12pm, Jackson Street An unknown vehicle side-swiped a parked 2002 Ford owned by a Davidson resident, causing $600 worth of damage to the parked vehicle. The officer’s investigation revealed that the parked vehicle was facing south and clear of travel lanes in a marked parking space when the accident occured. The unknown vehicle struck the front left corner, damaging the lighting, bumper, and quarter panel. Broken light debris near the front of the parked vehicle and black paint marks on the victim’s vehicle indicate the unknown vehicle was traveling south. The case is under investigation as a hit-and-run.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 13 , 10:26am, Lorimer and Pine roads An 89-year-old Davidson woman driving a 2005 Buick collided with a 2010 Honda driven by a 81-year-old Davidson woman after crossing the center line when attempting to turn onto Lorimer Road from Pine Road. The Buick sustained $3000 worth of damage, and the Honda sustained $3500. Neither driver was seriously injured in the accident, and both vehicles were towed from the scene.
FRIDAY, JUNE 15 , 8:59am, coscos North Main and Beaty streets A 1998 Pontiac driven by an 18-year-old Mooresville woman rear ended a 1995 Ford driven by a 31-year-old Mooresville man attempting to turn onto Beaty St. The Pontiac sustained $950 worth of damage, and the Ford sustained $500. FRIDAY, JUNE 15 , 12:44pm, North Main Street near Depot Street A 2001 Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 57-year-old Hot Springs woman backed into a parked 2013 Lexus on North Main Street when attempting to exit a parallel parking space. The driver fled the scene, but witnesses coscos identified the vehicle in a note left on the victim’s car that included coscos the license plate number. Davidson Police were able to track down the owner of the vehicle. coscos
