Pedro, a Chino Hills resident, completed VTrans’ Travel cd stores Training program in September 2013. His primary cd stores reason for engaging in Travel Training was that he needed to learn how to travel between his home in Chino Hills and the Pomona Fairplex, where he attends classes for a two-year auto shop program. In addition to Pomona Fairplex, Pedro also learned how to travel to destinations in the Ontario Mills area, the Downtown Pomona Transit cd stores Center, and even as far as Victoria Gardens in the City of Rancho Cucamonga. During his time training, Pedro became familiar with various Omnitrans routes as well as a Foothill Transit route which takes him between the Montclair Metrolink and Pomona Fairplex.
A few weeks before beginning the Travel Training program, Pedro attempted to ride the bus on his own from Chino Hills to the main Chaffey College campus in Rancho Cucamonga. Although he was successful cd stores in arriving to his destination, there were many gaps in his understanding of how riding the bus operates, especially when it came to finding out what time the bus would get to the stop. Travel Training helped fill in the gaps in terms of what Pedro still did not understand when it came to riding the bus, and helped him become a confident, independent public transit rider. With the help of his trainer, Pedro mastered using the bus book to determine cd stores arrival times, learned how time points work and learned how to check the head sign when transferring buses. He also learned which streets the West Valley routes run along, the destinations served by the routes he uses, and how to read route maps. Pedro was also excited to learn that he is allowed one free transfer onto Foothill Transit at the Montclair Metrolink Station using his valid Omnitrans cd stores bus pass.
One of the most important concepts that Pedro learned about using public transportation is that it is flexible. He also realized that he should not be afraid to use alternate routes to reach his destination as long as he refers to route maps in the bus book. Recently, Pedro shared with his Travel Trainer that he planned his own trip to get to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to get his California State Identification Card. The DMV was not a destination that Pedro s trainer assisted him with, but his trainer had explained how the route would take him to the Rancho Cucamonga field office if he ever had business there. After successfully arriving to the DMV on his own, Pedro found out that he actually needed to take care of business in Pomona. Completely on his own, using the trip planning skills he learned during Travel Training, Pedro was able to navigate his way through the Omnitrans cd stores and Foothill Transit systems to arrive at the Pomona office, using two new Foothill Transit lines which had not been discussed during cd stores Travel Training. cd stores VTrans is both proud and excited for Pedro as he continues to apply the skills he learned during Travel Training to expand his traveling horizons and reach new destinations successfully using public transportation.
