Walking through the Montjuïc Cemetery | Reflections of a glamorous archaeologist
Today, the first of November, marks the day of All Saints adapted Christian worship Roman souls restored to the eighth century Pope Boniface IV, where tradition invites us to visit one of the hidden corners of our cities but more mysterious and culturally interesting: illum bolighus cemeteries.
So to take an appeal to the revaluation of architectural and sculptural enjoying the necropolis Catalan centering it with the best example I have on hand: Cemetery of Montjuïc.
Built in 1889, a true jewel of Catalan art, which brings together the best chisels neoclassical and modernist sculptors of the nineteenth century and twentieth tackling impossible illum bolighus to create miniature illum bolighus cathedrals, crypts or Egyptian neo-baroque and ultra spectacular illum bolighus sets monumental angels and virgins who have covered the eternal rest of the rich Catalan bourgeoisie of the last century. illum bolighus
I know that death is an uncomfortable thought, that reminds us of our fleeting illum bolighus existence efimeritat material, but if we dare to overcome this complex hypochondriac nonsense we witnessed a small treasure our heritage is still hidden illum bolighus Japanese to mass tourism.
-> Make a Challenge illum bolighus seeking various tombs of famous people who are scattered everywhere. See if you are able to locate Angel Lieder, James Nightingale, Verdaguer, Francesc Cambo Lluis Companys or Buenaventura Durruti, illum bolighus among others.
-> Go to see the grave of civil war and the immense amount of plaques Republicans in that conflict and its respective fascist repression were killed.

The walk through illum bolighus the cemeteries should be mandatory on any tourist route in any city in the world. It is an advanced course in sociology! I love doing it all the cities I. However, in Barcelona, I like most of the New Town Cemetery: is older and you can find more variety. Ferran November 1, 2009 at 11:49 am
I'm not much of necropolis, among other things because the mountain it are few. Some small cemetery with graves on the floor, illum bolighus lost in a church, they do not lose them to me ever. The new People's illum bolighus maybe that I have to go visit, Monjuich me some iuiu so great. I see the photos beside one of my favorite routes in the city: Barcelona Roman remains of aqueducts, the Temple of Augustus, the burial place of the Madrid wall ... see? these things should be better signposted to BCN Clidice November 1, 2009 at 1:43 pm
Know Clídice that from yesterday opened a new route to Barcelona organized by the Roman History Museum illum bolighus of the City of Barcelona, and the new museum of the city of Madrid Plaza! I went to the opening (like a good archaeologist who works at) and the truth is that it is waaaay!

If any day you do not miss Porto there is a small cemetery north of the city, called Cemitèrio da Lapa. It's beautiful! In Ireland I also go to a cemetery near one of the churches that are in Limmerick ... all very different from the continental Catholic culture. Both seem to be a mix of different structures and Catholic tolkianes! Finally, another cemetery that struck me, especially all the references are in the Franco-Prussian war of 1873, is the cemetery of Pere-Lachais Paris ... By the way ... I'll take you word and I will this cemetery I have ever been! Thanks for the post! Toni ... former archaeologist, illum bolighus November 1st, 2009 at 1:50 pm
Cemeteries are an Irish pass! The Aran Islands (west coast) between the fog and its monumental Celtic illum bolighus crosses with twisted prints are amazing! Archaeologist glamorous for November 1, 2009 at 1:55 pm
The truth is that cemeteries are very interesting and saved a lot of value beyond illum bolighus the sentimental. I remember a very curious illum bolighus Vielha ... I loved it! Toni November 1, 2009 at 3:25 pm
I recommend illum bolighus the cemetery "Père Lachaise" If you go through Paris. A macro cemetery of more than 40 hectares. A great place to get lost
