Open: 31.08.2013 30.10.2013 The exhibition serves the purpose of creating an aesthetic space that includes the design tradition and the significance tk max jobs of art in order to see what happens, when art meets everyday design classics tk max jobs at Illums Bolighus. In the course of the exhibition period of Double, the furniture department is infiltrated by artistic objects that reflect everyday living and create space for a new sensation - an awareness now and here. In the familiar ambience of the department store, there are already an infinite number of visual inputs, and being accustomed to information as we are, the eye quickly scans the surroundings for focal points, while the rest is at most registered subconsciously. Yet, at a certain moment a question arises. A ladder tk max jobs of paper, a painted shelf made of boards, expressive ceramic plates being miles from the modern Scandinavian design that characterises Illums Bolighus' famous tk max jobs line of design. Something breaks tk max jobs the codes that we normally use to categorise reality and makes us stop and sense the moment in a new way. DOUBLE starts working. Art has blurred our well-tested sense of reality, and suddenly nothing is quite as it seems. In collaboration with the curator and artist Torgny Wilcke Double is Illums Bolighus' contribution the design tk max jobs week/INDEX and Copenhagen Art Week. With 44 participating artists, almost half being international contributors, the exhibition is a significant contribution as a way of exploring the interface between art and design. The concept tk max jobs behind tk max jobs the exhibition is, according to Torgny Wilcke, that the works would 'infiltrate' Illum's living section like 'maladjusted tk max jobs domestic elements' that fit into the recognisability of the design context while, tk max jobs however, deviating in some way or other by evading the functional or aesthetic norms. Double is supported by the National and International Visual Arts Section of the Danish National Arts Council and Danish Crafts. The bag, an item catalogue and the Doublebag designed by Lise Nørholm for Illums Bolighus are lanced at the opening. Illums Bolighus was founded in 1925 under the name of BO. The man behind the venture was Danish entrepreneur Kaj Dessau, who was blessed with a strong aesthetic sense as well as a flair for business. Working with his artistic consultant, Brita Drewsen, he created a concept that had never been seen before: a store with furnished interiors, where textiles and furniture interacted with art. Drewsen and Dessau's exceptional foresight and feeling for quality during the 1930s has since played an important role in the status achieved by Danish interior design internationally.
