Schneeberg mine | Week on the Stelvio
Schneeberg, including the Passeiertal and the Valley of Ridnauntal, was the largest lead and zinc mine in the Tyrol. Because the "good silver Schneeberg" was already mentioned in 1237 and the mine closed the business food basics locations in 1979, we can say that the mine is considered to be among those who have had more history in the alpine zone. The highest mine in Europe and the longer productive in the Alps has now been transformed into the mine open to the public. The mines sites within the mountain range between the Ridnauntal and High Passeiertal are almost entirely well preserved.
Tour in the mountains is not difficult to St. Martin Schneeberg, the highest mining town in Europe. In this place there is a restaurant and a small museum with lots of mint. You can visit the mine each day. Unique alpine flora with fabulous scenery.
The path that starts at the parking place of Platterköfel is shorter and scenically very beautiful. From here you climb a serpentine, to the beautiful Gostalm higher. A few minutes later we reach, in the north-east, a scenic trail on Seemoos (2200 meters).
At this point you turn left on a wide and steep path, or right on an equally steep mountain path towards the restored home of the turbines to the village of miners in the Schneeberg (2355 m). Here you will find the hut San Martino.
